JV1 Beats Fall Mountain Varsity 4-1 On The Turf

The young JV marauders found themselves pitted against yet another varsity team for the second time in the week. Similarly to their last game they donned masks to play on this warm Saturday down on the turf. The JV showed that they were adapt to playing with the quick speed of the turf, and would open scoring quickly. After a well earned corner by Mitch Rowley he followed it up with an equally well taken corner. Mitch struck the ball to the back post that found where Matthias Einarsson was able to be first two it and buried off his head in the third minute. The marauders continued to press the wildcats to great effect. Another ball would be won on the right flank then had Jack Gardner place ball right toward the front post that allowed Zack Tracy to run on in crowd to double the lead just two minutes later. The play ensued in similar fashion with knocking the ball around keeping space and having Fall Mountain left chasing. CMs John Reznek and Ian Press had some quality build up that would lead to free kick right outside the 18. Jack McGrath would stand over the free kick and struck it with great precision over the leaping wall to straight into the upper right corner, earning a 3-0 lead in the 11th minute.

Hanover would have  another well struck corner by Jack Stadheim that found Cam Forbush waiting inside the 18, but was unable to put the ball on frame taking the ball out of the air with a first time volley. From there the JV were able show their great depth rolling out wholesale substitutions. Jackson Watts and Ethan Munson showed that they were very sure footed along the back line. James Kirkpatrick would deny Eryll Brennan, the dangerous wildcat striker, a scoring chance by sliding over from the right to the middle where he would have been in on Jackson McBride all alone. Asa Wise played like a man on fire and had good interplay with Ben Woods down the left flank. Ian Smith was able to play many good line breaking passes behind the Wildcat defense. One such pass nearly sprung Pierce Seigne in alone but was blown offsides. He continued making great forward runs that allowed others to run on to the play. Near the end of the half a forward run by Seigne opened up play for Aidan Tomlin to have an excellent scoring chance where he dribbled past a couple defenders but his shot be saved the wildcat keeper Brayden King.

The second half would continue to see more of the same with many scoring chances. Hanover would find the tilt becoming more tightly officiated but worked to ensure that they were being responsive to how the game was being called. Matt Cabrejo would get an early substitution for Mitch Rowley as Rowley had taken one hard off the knee. Cabrejo owned the right flank creating many scoring chances and provided several shots on frame. Hanover would continue to roll subs out as the warm afternoon sun beat down on the turf and players breathing heavily through their masks. As the depth showed that their conditioning was ready to handle what the Wildcats had to show they would tally another goal in the 69th minute. After a corner was taken Ian Press played the way he was facing to Simon Taenzer waiting ten yards behind the 18. Taenzer cooly lined up a shot that ducked right under the bar over the outstretched keeper's finger tips. Koa Schuette's offensive work from right back almost created another goal, working in tandem with Rowley to set up Seigne. Fall Mountain kept fighting bravely and pulled back a goal on a free kick excellently struck for the wildcats by Noah Gutierrez that found the goal hitting the side netting in the 74th. Hats off to that great shot that would close out scoring for the game.

Hanover finds a home and home with upcoming with Stevens this next week. A reminder to bring flats to training on Monday for a fun run on the King Arthur trail system around the Dresden fields (cleats should also be brought).
