JV2 Opens Their Season With a Big Win Over Newport

Hanover 10 - Newport 0 The JV2 Marauders started their season at full speed against a small-rostered Newport side. Kick-off to the first twenty minutes were end-to-end with Hanover showing dangerous, early signs of a goal and Newport attacking equally well down the other side. The deadlock was finally broken twenty minutes and 30 (correct) Offside Calls on Hanover later when Augie Krawitt pinched the ball of a Newport defender, leaving Soren Stettenheim to race through on goal and finish the move with a little "chip" over the keeper. Ruslan Henry almost doubled the Marauders lead just a few moments later when his solo effort down the right flank ended with a shot that was just a little bit "wide" and "over" the goal, "Wover" we like to call that. Newport then put the pressure right back on Hanover with a few break-away opportunities, the best of which was spoiled by the lightning-quick reactions and recovery speed of Jackson Liu. This would not be the last time Jackson single-handedly put an end to Newport's attacking moves. Just ten minutes later, Stettenheim picked the ball up on the left flank and beat two defenders on the dribble, before slotting the ball underneath the keeper for his and Hanover's second of the match. 2-0. With their feet already on the gas, the Marauders did not let up and just 5 minutes later Liam Wordin found himself on the end of a scramble in Newport's box and placed the ball low, hard, and into the corner for Hanover's third and Liam's first. The first half was rounded off in spectacular fashion with a slick, Hanover passing play on the left flank resulting in Stettenheim being set-up for a delicious right-footed volley to hammer Hanover's fourth into the top-left corner of the net. Thus completing a first-half hattrick for Stettenheim. The second half began as the first finished, with non-stop attacking play from the JV2 lads. Five minutes into the half, Krawitt found himself open on the top of the box to slot a tidy finish into the bottom left corner of the net, his first of the season. Seven minutes later, Augie Krawitt picked the ball up on the left side of the field before sliding Soren through, across the goal, for a simple tap-in for his fourth (yes, fourth) goal of the match. Stettenheim would go on to grab his 5th and final goal of the match just two minutes later with a fantastic individual effort assisted by Wordin. Ayaan Ahmad then decided it was his turn to get in on the action and popped-up with two quick-fire goals to increase Hanover's advantage to 9. Ayaan's first was a fabulous solo run, through the heart of Newports defense, and calmly slotted past the keeper. His second he managed to squeeze in from an improbable angle on the right side of Newports penalty area. Hanover's scoring finished at 10 with a great team effort. Simeon found the ball at his feet after some close-quarters play from the midfield trio. He then slid the ball into an on-rushing Will Taylor who again found the bottom corner of the net to round-off the match. It should be noted that Hanover's attacking threat today all stemmed from a near-flawless performance in the back from all defenders. The back four was also well-guarded by the massive figure of Alex Brackett who was a calm, composed and imposing presence on the field today.
