Team Photos Wednesday/The System Works/Charitable Work

All four boys' teams will have their team photos taken, and JV1 and Varsity wil also have individual head shots taken, all during their scheduled practice times. The three sub-varsity teams all received uniforms yesterday, and should arrive at practice wearing their uniforms. Players who were absent and did not received their uniforms will received them tomorrow. The JV2 and Freshman team will have their team photos taken at Dresden. The JV1 team photo will be taken at the HHS turf. Because the Varsity did not receive uniforms Tuesday, the should arrive at the turf at 6:15 sharp to receive their uniforms before their photos are taken. The Varsity did not receive uniforms Tuesday because their practice ended early. Their practice ended early because a player was injured seriously enough to require a trip to DHMC by ambulance. Fortunately, his dislocated kneecap was quickly and expertly reduced, and his recovery time will be two weeks, and is not season-ending. The reason we mention this is because all of the systems in place to respond to the inevitable injuries which will occur in sports worked pewrfectly. Coach Sam Farnham and Trainer Cassie Lapple responnded immediately, assessing the injury and calling 911 swiftly. Players spread out to guide the ambulance to the field. Cassie continued to monitor the injury and provide first aid. Parents were contacted, and throughout the entire ewpisode COVID protocols were followed. We HATE having players injured. The fact that the injury occurred as a result of clean, fair play in a scrimmage situation was helpful. We have nearly 90 players. Actuarial odds suggest that there will be injuries. We work harrd to reduce risk, and are glad to know that tthe system works when they happen. We hope that most of you have received a donation request from the Friends of Hanover Soccer. We hope that most of you have donated. If have not received a request and/or have not donated, please contact us and wse will help you rectify this situation. The money that Friends receives from your generosity and from the program book (want to buy an ad?) goes to supplement our modest budget. We buy balls for all four teams, game uniforms for all four teams (replenishing socks in particular every year), and sometime bigger items, like the Corever goals for Dresden that allow us to split our training areas into two-goal fields. This is our only fundraising. We specifically refrain from asking players to spend their time (and your money) selling candy bars, discount cards, and apparel. We want the players to be free from this sort of obligation so that they are freee to choose to raise funds for charity instead. Every year, we engage in one or two charitable fundraisers. Last year, for instance, we raised nearly $2,000 for Grassroot Soccer, a favorite not-for-profit founded by HHS and Dartmouth and Geisel grad Dr. Tommy Clarkl. We also raised nearly that amount for the CROP Hunger Walk, for funds to fight huinger both locally and worldwide. This year, the CROP Walk on Oct. 4th will be virtual/individual. Fundraising wil be online and easily accomplished, and we are just about to make a pitch to players to participate. It's relatively quick and easy to do, and the potential is amazing for the collective power of many players each contributing their small part. Stay tuned for details. Thanks for considering this project.
