JV2 Beats Newport on the Road, 9-1

By all accounts, the Newport Varsity team that succumbed to the Marauder JV2s at the start of the season was much improved.  Unfortunately for the Tigers, three weeks with Bucket has also improved the Hanover side, and they cruised to a 9-1 victory on Monday, celebrating the chance to frolic outdoors on a crisp fall afternoon.

It took a while for the Marauders to settle into the game and avoid the offside bug, but 20 minutes into the match Soren Stettenheim, the apex of the Triangle of Death, gave them a 1-0 lead with a solo effort. Two minutes later Ayaan Ahmad set up Henry Werner to double the lead.  Augie Krawitt made the score 3-0 with 10 minutes left in the half, and Ruslan Henry made the score 4-0 with a powerful right-footed volley into the upper left corner to close out the half.

Hanover resumed the attack in the second half, as Augie Krawitt slid a pass to Stettenheim with the outside of his foot to give Soren his second.  Henry Werner, who never passes up an opportunity to pass up a pass, did his little solo thing and finished outside the near post for HIS brace.  Jackson McBride, moonlighting from his JV1 goalie duties, chipped the keeper with a lofted shot to the far side netting to make the score 7-0.

Newport finally got on the board when they were awarded a penalty, which they converted well.  Hanover responded with a pair of goals.  Ruslan Henry squared a pass to Stettenheim, whose hat trick gave him seven goals in two games against Newport.  The final goal came on a free kick from Krawitt to Liam Worden, who chipped the goalie on behalf of the TOD.

Goalkeeper Christian Blix was busier this time, and handled several shots to earn the win in goal.
