Marauders Kick Off CROP Walk Charity Fundraiser
For the next two weeks, members of the Hanover Soccer program are invited to participate in a public service program that has been supported by Marauder players and families for more than 15 years. Every October, we are a part of a community effort to raise money to combat hunger both locally and around the world - the CROP Hunger Walk.
We are encouraging players on all four teams to consider participating as walkers, registering as part of the Hanover Soccer "Team", learning about the impact of the CROP Walk, and soliciting donations. On a non-pandemic year, all of the walkers would gather in downtown Lebanon on a Sunday afternoon and walk around a 2.5-mile course through Lebanon neighborhoods, on part of the rail trail, and through another neighborhood. This year, walkers are encouraged to choose their own time and place to walk, with family, with a few socially-distanced friends, or with teammates. We are planning a possible walk from HHS to Dresden to practice one of these nice days, as one option.
Supporters can donate by giving a check to a participant, or donating on line. That's the easiest way - send the link to a few friends and relatives, and the rest is easy. The Varsity team has had a good head start. Nearly a dozen have registered, have already raised $650. One walker, senior Matias Lee, has already won one of the nice prizes for top walkers - sweet soccer gear from Soccer.com.
This is completely voluntary, of course, but it's part of our program culture, raising money for good causes. Already this year, a crew of players earned a large donation to LISTEN by stacking firewood, and another crew moved a piano and earned another check to LISTEN. Last year, we raised for than $2,000 for Grassroot Soccer.
Here's the link to the Lebanon Area CROP Walk. Sorry you can't click on it, but you can cut and paste, or type it in. Thanks for considering participation and/or donation!
