Hanover Hosts Division One Semifinal Wednesday Against Windham

The Marauders are back in the NHIAA Final Four, and for the first (and probably last) time in school history, they are hosting a semifinal match on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against Windham. Hanover and Windham are both undefeated, but both are in the semifinals on the basis of upsets.  Hanover beat powerhouse Bedford 1-0 last Saturday, a mild upset over a perennial power that was ranked 9th in New England.  Windham beat Manchester Central on penalty kicks, knocking off the top team in New England. Both Hanover and Windham have emerged from "Groups of Death", and their first-ever matchup is a battle of heavyweights.

Because the Covid pandemic haas limited the use of neutral fields, host teams for the final four were were selected by a random draw prior to the tournament.  Hanover's Group Three was tabbed to host the semifinal. The winner of Wednesday's game at Megriman-Branch Field will travel to either Nashua South or Winnacunnet for Saturday's Final.

Spectator rules remain unchanged for the match.  Each player is allowed to invite two family members, who will be given wristbands.  Unfortunately, students from both schools are not allowed to attend.

The Marauders will need ball runners for the match.  Those interested should contact Coach Grabill and come to the match no later than 4:00.  First come, first served.

Hanover will train at 4:45 on Tuesday.  The Hanover girls, who will host Windham in Thursday's 4:00 semifinal, will train immediately after school, and prior to Wednesday's game.

Remember that next Thursday, November 12th, all four Hanover boys' teams will gather via Zoom at 7:00 for the annual Soccer Celebration.  Parents are warmly invited.

Hanover has been in Division One for nine years, and has been to the semifinals in seven of those years. They made the final four in every one of their first four years, from 2012-2015, winning the D1 Championship in 2013 to capo an unbeaten as season.  After missing the semifinals in 2016 and 2017, they returned in 2018 and lost to Manchester Central in the semis, and then swept to the title in 2019 with wins over Central and Bedford.  Now they're back again, facing a talented, hungry Windham team.  The Jaguars are in their third season in Division One, and have never played Hanover.  They were scheduled for their first meeting this season, but Covid wiped out the D1 regular season.  Now, finally, the two teams meet with a lot on the line.
